OTHER J&S SKIFF HISTORIES

JS-86   PRETTY GIRL ENTERPRISES
WHITE HULL AND DECK WITH RUNNER BOTTOM
BUILT IN 1975 BY BILL MOORE THIS WAS THE FIRST BOAT OUT OF J&S FIBERGLASS SPECIALTIES' MOLDS.
BILL MOORE, ALWAYS THE INNOVATOR, BUILT THE BOAT WITH AN EXPERIMENTAL RUNNER BOTTOM AND RACED IT FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, UNFORTUNATELY WITH LITTLE SUCCESS. IN 1983 BILL DARBY, Jr. PURCHASED THE BOAT AND HIS FATHER BILL DARBY, Sr. RACED IT WITH THE ORIGINAL BOTTOM DESIGN AS WELL AS THE NUMBER AND NAME, JS-86 "PRETTY GIRL ENTERPRISES". BILL DARBY, Jr. REDESIGNED THE BOTTOM, REMOVING THE RUNNERS, AND STARTED RACING THE BOAT AS JS-104 "THE CHALLENGER". CAPSULES WERE ADDED TO THE BOAT TO COMPLY WITH THE MANDATORY ROLL CAGE RULE AND ONCE AGAIN THE BOAT'S NAME AND NUMBER WERE CHANGED, THIS TIME TO JS-133 "DARBY'S RAPTURE". THE CAPSULES HAVE SINCE BEEN REMOVED AND BILLY PLANS ON SHOWING UP AT SOME VINTAGE EVENTS.

JS- OPEN SKIFF
BUILT IN 1981 FOR TERRY FRAHS - JACKSONVILLE, FL
ONE OF TWO OPEN DECK STYLE HULLS BUILT.
THIS HULL WAS LIGHT BLUE. THE BOAT WAS FINISHED OFF BEAUTIFULLY BY TERRY AND USED BY HIM AS HIS PERSONAL OPEN SKIFF. THE BOAT CURRENTLY BELONGS TO PETER HIPPEN OF JACKSONVILLE, FL.

JS-??
BUILT IN 1982 FOR BOB JOST - SHARK RIVER, NJ
SAME GRAPHICS AS JS-66 TOGETHER AGAIN, BUT IN RED AND SILVER METALFLAKE.
BUILT AS A RIVER BOAT, BOB JOST AND BROTHER BILL USED THIS BOAT FOR A FEW YEARS BEFORE SELLING IT TO MERRICK PRATT OF NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND. PRATT DISASSEMBLED THE BOAT AND STORED THE HULL OUTSIDE. A FIRE IN HIS GARAGE DESTROYED ALL THE HARDWARE BUT BECAUSE THE HULL WAS OUTSIDE IT ESCAPED DAMAGE. THE HULL MINUS HARDWARE NEXT APPEARED FOR SALE AT FRED'S BAIT AND TACKLE ON HIGHWAY 35 IN CLIFFWOOD BEACH, NJ WHERE IT SAT FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. IT HAS RECENTLY TURNED UP AT S&S SPEED SKIFFS IN LONG BRANCH, NJ AND HAS BEEN FALSELY RUMORED TO BE AN UNUSED, NEVER ASSEMBLED J & S HULL. PHOTO REQUESTED.

JS-??
BUILT IN 1980 FOR JIM CAMP - ST. PETERSBURG, FL
SAME COLOR AND DESIGN AS JS-41 JUST FOR FUN
BLUE METALFLAKE AND WHITE.
THIS WAS A WASTE OF A GOOD BOAT AS IT WAS BUTCHERED IMMEDIATELY AFTER DELIVERY. THE DECK WAS CUT OFF AND THROWN OUT. THE HULL WAS CUT DOWN TOO FAR AND A NEW WOOD TOP PLANK AND DECK WERE PUT ON TO BRING IT BACK TO A RACE LEGAL HULL. THE BOAT WAS ORIGINALLY SET UP BY CAMP USING A SURFACE PROP WITH THE PROP SHAFT COMING OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE TRANSOM AND AN OUTBOARD MOUNTED RUDDER. ALL DONE VERY CRUDELY. THE ONLY TIME WE SAW THE BOAT WAS AT A ST. PETERSBURG, FL RACE. IT LOOKED AND RAN LIKE S#?T. PRESENT WHEREABOUTS UNKNOWN.

JS-??
